A/C system design

Hi Everybody! I am new here. More than 2 years I did a/c instalation and service in UK. Now I think it is time to do A/C system design for the customers. I Have a Diploma of Refrigeration Engineer which I got in my country (Estonia). It was 5 years of learning refrigeration and HVAC technology. This degree allows me to design any refrigeration or A/C system with any capasity in Estonia and in lots of European countries. Could You give any advise please. What must I have to do design of A/C systems in UK.

If you have moved over to the UK then all you need to do is have your degree assessed by an educational institute. They will probably charge you for the service but I don't know how much.

There is no legal requirement to have a qualification for designing, but if you have already got one then that's fine. But its experience that employers will be looking for.

The best advice that I can give is just mailshot companies that specialise in large packaged HVAC systems, and get your name down with recruitment agencies. They can be quite difficult to deal with and they're a set of chancers like all other agent type industries. But unfortunately employers prefer to recruit through them instead of advertising in newspapers like they used to.

I would also recommend that you get Professional Indemnity Insurance if you are designing.

It's a way of covering your back if things go wrong.

In the uk you can design what you like without any diploma, but what you design has to fuction to the requirements of the customer and also comply with current legislation.

Example
I personally have experienced recently, that a very very knowledgeable chap (one with a doctorate in physics) has not been allowed on site to assist the commission of the very same system he designed because he does not have the relevant certification to prove his competence.

I am not talking about a poxy vrv or vrf but the 14 million pound Co2 / Nh3 system he designed.
