Ive got a lofty style system that is on R22 and its just droped its compressor! Its a Lunite Rotary, problem is that it seems they dont make them any more but point you towards the R407c version which is the same in displacement and body size but in its data surgests it has a slightly lower duty ( im guessing this is due to the different gas its for).

So im wondering can i just use the 407c version and fill it with R22r or will i need to convert the system to 407c wich im assumeing will be a pain in the ass as its a cap tube system?

Cheers,

Greg

I don't see a problem with running a R407C comp on R22, the oil is compatable and i expect the compressor is pretty much the same internally.

I have a lot of R404A comps running on R22 on dairy stuff, in fact i would fit them even if a R22 one is still available as it may help with later refrigerant replacements when R22 get hard to get.

hi you actually need to check with compressor manufacturer as compressors made by hitachihas the compatibilty to use both refrigerants but all all compressors

Only difference in compressor made for R22 and for R407C is in filled oil. R407C compressor is filed with POE oil.
In fact, there is no compressor made specifically for R407C. R407C is transition refrigerant made to be compatible with equipment made for R22.
R22 is miscible with POE and mineral oil and you don't need to do anything except change compresor and filter dryer to one which is also compatible with POE oils and flush system with dry nitrogen from residual mineral oil left in pockets.

The only important thing that you have to look at is the oil type and compressor displacement.
