View Full Version : Locked rotors in new sealed unit compressors

A couple of years ago I took the opportunity of buying four brand new sealed unit compressors. (Kirloskar AH5515E 1.2 hp) which were old stock. I used two of the compressors without problems. However, after two years I have installed the other two only to find in each case that they won't start and the rotors are locked.

I have made sure the system was not overcharged and there wasn't any blockages in the piping. I have also made sure the wiring and power to the motors is correct.

I now wish I had bench tested them before installation but I have never had this happen to me before.

I can only assume that the pistons have seized over the years due to corrosion or something else.

If I could get compressors to start they will probably be OK.

Has anyone experienced this problem or have any suggestions.

Single or three phase?

Tried reversing them anyway?

The compressors are single phase. When you say 'reversing' do you mean the active and neutral wires?

This matter has been resolved.

After studying the wiring diagram I found out that I had incorrectly wired the compressors. I reversed the connections to the common terminal and the run terminal and 'bingo' both compressors started up.

My faith has been restored in the manufacturer of the compressors.:D:D
