A winery I was asked, nicely, to make a refrigeration unit.
To keep the wine at 14°C.

Inside unit is stainless steel and copper pipes.
Condensing unit is home made.

Today It was 41°C and head pressure was only 270 psi.

Enjoy the pictures.

May sound a stupid question, but why is it that when you go abroad, a.c systems and refrigeration systems have white tape around armaflex. Is it for heat deflection?
Or for something else?

US Iceman

Armaflex has a white coating to use on the insulation when intalled outside. The white covering helps to protect the insulation from ultraviolet light (UV llight spectrum). UV rays can cause the insulation to turn brittle due to the loss of the elastomers in the insulation.

The insulation will look like it has dried up after a short exposure time.

The white also helps to reflect the heat off of the pipe.

For most applications Armaflex seems to work OK. However, I would not recommend it's use on ammonia refrigeration systems. It does not seem to last very long (indoors or outdoors).

Not exactly.
The white coat is PVC.
I never use it. Instead, I use white spacial paint that was originally made for sealing and whitening roofs,
Great stuff, guaranties for 12 years.
I have to take some pictures of a blast chiller I have finished recently, all the outdoor pipes are painted with the stuff.

Hi Chemi,
The high pressure is 1.9MPa at the 41C, what is the refrigerant. Cndensing unit is home made by yourself? Al fin and copper tube ?what brand compressor? how about the controller(compressor on/off or stepless according to the indoor room temp)?
hope share more -:)

Hi Chemi

Is there a reason why the pipes are painted Green?

chemi-cool
08-09-2005, 04:20 AM
Hi Frank'

All the liquid lines in this plant was in green.
I was asked to paint it in the same colour.

As far as I'm concern, it could have been purple.

I did my apprenticeship at what was called back then A.W.R.E

full title M.O.D(P.E)A.W.R.E.

but they dropped the 'r' and are now -

http://www.awe.co.uk/

An absolutely fantastic place real real cutting edge stuff.

The only cray computer outside america the most powerful laser in the world, nukes, plastic explosives, ballistic testing the best pathology lab in the country and -in my day- everything was 'cost+'

money poured in/out like a gentle never ending stream ;-)

life was so cushy some apprentices were qualifying and sitting down waiting for retirement..

however everything was painted green there too -it was done after research showed green was the most passive colour and pleasing to the eye .

cheers

Green is indeed a "soothing" colour.
It cools the eye..........and relaxes the mind
Proven scientific fact

Dont you dare ask me who the scientest was......
Just come chill out in my new conservatory and we can look into my green garden!!!

Yep...on the roof with top outlet, almost exactly the same as we install.
But the picture is posted upside down, so you have to turn it 180°:p :D

Happy Newyear Chemi.

Think you haven't noticed the smileys after my add and/or didn't understand or relaised why I posted them.

It's not the first time a see a Bitzer and the liquid receivers are the same we're using.
Strange receivers, liquid coming out on the top of it   :D
