Just kidding..

Lived in New Zealand for about a year when I was very young only got vague memories.

It is a very beautiful place though.

I would consider it a good place to live and work.

I think you'll find the houses are not 'cheap' as it has gone through a bigger 'boom' than here.

http://www.open2view.com/

You will also find that wages are'cheap' too and pound for pound you are better off here

however you then have to factor in other qualities which may tip the balance either way. Don't run to NZ believeing it's some kind of trouble free paradise -a lot move out there and do rather well but a lot move back again as it wasn't what it appeared to be..

However a lot are going through the same thought process and I always recommend here for info

a truely fantastic site for all those dreamin...sign on and look for all the info you'll ever need..

however don't go into this half hearted coz
a it's bloody expensive
b it's very time consuming
c it's very frustrating
d huge family rows are the norm during this process
e did i say how expensive it was??

My old apprentice emigrated to NZ 8 years ago and we went over to see him Xmas 2003 for a week. Lovely place, smashing people and lots to see.

However, don't think that moving will make you rich in this trade. remember the old saying - money makes money - the rest of us has to work for it. Pound for pound the cost of living is on a par with the UK, even though the exchange rate is roughly 3.5 NZ dollars to the pound. The pace of life is slower and it is genuinely like living in the UK 30 years ago. Technology is up to date but the interaction betwen humans is like the old times.

A loaf of bread cost $2.95 when we were there and most other things were about the same cost - par for english costs - and - oh one other thing - they do NOT sell beer in large glasses, nothing larger than a half pint. Pubs (bars) normally close at 8pm in the outlying areas, as do shops, restaurants, fish and chip shops - well, just name it and it shuts early.

I was told that the only crime/trouble was caused by the Moaris (sp) i.e. the natives.

The qualifications you hold - or may hold in the UK, are not recognised in NZ and you have to re-train before you are allowed to work as a skilled technician (unles you are a Doctor or Dentist etc). Follow the links that Richard has posted to the Emigration Department. I only qualify for 48 points cos' I'm an old codger :D

One has to wonder why there is always a shortage of fridge guys round the world..

could it possibly be because it's basically a sh1te job, poorly paid, under appreciated and renumerated accordingly ??

What brand of packs (supermarkets, meat cutting factories..) are used in Australia and New Zealand?
Are these packs made in AUS or NZ?

Peter common in supermarkets these days are frigrite or tyler...used to be hussman..but you dont see many of them now as stores go through retrofit...Austral are also starting to get a fair share of the market. have a look here

As far as I understood from the companies you gave me, all of them do the whole project, installing the pack, the lines, the cabinets and the service afterwards.
I don't think there excists a company which only makes just the packs with eventually a switch-cupboard build onto it, like we have many of it over here.

Hi All
I have been here in NZ for 6 Months,I emigrated after a job offer from a company called Climatech. They flew me out and put me up in a hotel for a month to see if I liked it!
I loved it and soon as I got back I applied for my work to residence visa. That took 6 weeks and me and the family moved out in January.I am in the south Island working in Queenstown we are so short of labour down here theres always plenty of work in between skiing, fishing, trail riding, boating and chilling out.If theres 4 cars in a row its a traffic jam!
It beats the motorway driving and the city working anyday and my wages are the same as the uk.

Regards Jamie
PS Anyone want a job in the mountains?

Just this add in an excisting and old thread to see if some new members know who's making packs in NZ or all those all imported?
Or are packs rarely installed down under?

HI Peter If you are refering to supermarket racks yes they are manufactured in NZ also Hussman and Hill cases are manufactured here. I Have been out of the business for a few years but still keep in contact with guys in trade. I find it more pleasing to run my pub called Kelly Brownes bar in Cambridge NZ
