Hello :D

Im am fitting a cold room on an articulated lorry trailer.

I am running the pipes 3/8 and 1/4 in normal refrigration tube and want to use flexible lengths of about 1m for the final connections with a female flared connection at each end.

Am I right in thinking these need to be purchased in coils and made to measure on site using a purpose built crimping tool of some kind?

I wanted to buy something off the shelf but can't find anywhere.

On a similar topic, does anyone know where I can buy nylon coated capillaries for coupling to pressure switches?

I am not looking for vibration eliminators, the copper will be well supported, it's just the ends that will be flying.

What about manifold lines?

Thanks. :p

Might be worth speaking to these people...

I think I've seen the flexible capillaries in Climate Center, but I'm sure most suppliers do them.

This is exactly what we make a few times in a year.

For the flexible lines for the pressure switches: we use the Reflex for this. http://refflex.com/content/en_frame.htm
We have lengths of 20 m of tube and we crimp on the tube the adapter we need we a crimping tool very similar like those you use for electrical connections.

In the picture, the small grey ones.

For the refrigerant connections, we use or Burgaflex or Parker.

The Burgaflex needs to be coupled with a special big crimping tool. We go to the wholesaler and we say what we need and he makes the hoses for us within 5 minutes.
But with the Parker system, you buy the hose and the adapters you need and you can screw them on the hose (cut th hose on length on-site) on-site, gas-tight with only 2 spanners. Easy for repairs.http://www.interflow.co.za/tube-o.gif
Here in Belgium, Parker is distributed by ECR. Not all adapters are hold in stock by ECR.

or you could use off the shelf flexible braided hose available from most refrigeration suppliers they start at 12"up to 60"

Thanks everyone.

The steel braided is definately an option but it doesn't come cheap, the crimping tool is about the same price, the rubber hose is braided on the inside, I beleive.

I wondered about coiling the copper itself into a spring before fitting onto the units, is this a viable method?

you dont need tools for the steel braid they come with female 1/4 flare on either end coiled copper is an option i use it quite a bit to reduce vibration

I wouldn't recommend the Burgaflex bubble crimp style of hose system. The crimp joint is not the best, we had problems over many years with these.
We now use Aeroquip EZ-Clip hose and fittings and have had no problems (except avoid the -16 size). Hose assemblies can be made on site with no special crimping tools required. Burgaflex have a similar clip system as do Manuli.

Sorry can't post URL's.
