Hi all, I am brand new to this forum and hopefully may be able to share some of my 27 years worth of knowledge with you at some point. Now I have read a few posts about people making fun about LG and just wondered if there is something I dont know regarding the product. My main core of business as a self employed engineer is repair and servicing of refrigeration equipment but during the last 18 months I have installed numerous LG air conditioners and touch wood have had no problems with them apart from one I went out to this morning and the compressor has seized but that is down to the shopfitters not listeneing to my recommendations and not a fault of the machine, I have always LG air con to be good value for money.

Now my reason for posting is during a conversation last week with my supplier he informed me that he had a heated discussion with LG regarding warranty problems with some wall mount heat pump ac and LG have turned around and said that no wall mounted ac from their range is suitable for commercial installation, they are designed for domestic application only and they have had lots of problems which apparently have been hushed up but a new range is to be launched anytime now suitable for commercial use, so all the systems that I have installed for commercial use have as my supplier tells me been miss sold to me. Does anyone else know about this and have you had many LG related problems. A friend of mine who specialises in installations only, has now stopped using LG and changed over to Fujitsu and Samsung.

Don't you like Daikin? :)

Can't say that we have installed LG but have heard many stories - both here on the forum and elsewhere - and I must say, I don't have much confidence in LG.

I can't understand this statement as heat gain is - heat gain

Saying that, Daikin don't like their wall units used in "Server Room" situations (low humidity) unless they are selected on sensible duty only.

If I recall correctly, Marc was going to use LG in his training courses :) - Is this still going ahead Marc? :D

well as you know I tend to keep my thoughts on LG to myself ;-))

Although the most recent fitted have all been problem free and I'm close to expecting them to actually start first time rather anticipating that they won't...

however as regards the 'domestic' issue all japanese small splits are designed for the domestic market -hence on the remote with the 'run on timer' function.

Sure a heat load is a heatload but simularly a commercial fridge is manufacturered to a higher spec than a domestic because it's expected to have a harder life..

Daikin are excellent and whilst they are more expensive I have calculated that because of their design superiority the installation time is 10/15% less than LG etc

However most (ourselves inc) don't include this in the costings

We have investigated this server room issue and Daikin would appear to contradict themselves -Marc had a long telephone conversation not long ago where a Daikin guy recommened that you DID fit an inverter to a server room ..go figure

I have had many problems with Airedale concept 2000 condensing units shaking themselves to bits and I had a problem with the Airedale company, I purchased a compressor and contactor from them, the contactor failed after 1 month burning the compressor out, Airedales answer was "the compressor failed because of a faulty contactor not compressor failure due to faulty compressor components, we will give you a warranty replacement contactor but not a compressor", because I am a small company who did not normally buy from Airedale they did not want to know me and I would not buy from them again even though I do work on Airedale equipment I would sooner source the parts elsewhere.
I did install Mitsibishi electric for a while but they were too expensive when you are up against companies quoting to install unheard brands purchased from third world countries that will in the end of the day do the same job. I need to really think about what brands to use in the future. Did I tell you about the problems that I had with Acson air conditioners, arghhhhhhhhhhhh...............

I must say in my experience I have had little problem with LG., except one particular system which shook my perception of LG, but having looked at that installation I put it down to a bad installation........... instead of a prob with the unit.

LG is competively priced, and are functional, reliable and will perform.

Saying this, Im dying to install a Daikin one of these days. I have installed Fujitsu, Mitsubishi..........I think LG is easier....... ahem, there all about the same.

Well guys,
Interesting discussion, :D

LG, no thanks, a big disaster over here,

Take my 4 units at home, the first is 15 years old, made by ELCO,

Never had any problems, never!, unless you call changing batteries in the remote controller and cleaning filters, a problem.

I'm not trying to push our industry but there are two good companies in Israel, Tadiran and Elco.

Give it a try, only last year I have install more then a 100 units.

The company who I worked for in the early 80's imported a lot of Tadirans and to be honest they were not very good, but ac has come along way in 25 years. One of the biggest load of rubbish I was very unfortunate to get involved in was some lennox splits in the mid 90's, what a disaster, on one we had to rip it out and replace it with a Daikin because of all the problems with electronics. What ever happened to electro mechanical controls like on the early Marstair's, Qualitair's and Rootes Tempair, showing my age now!

Nothing great about LG over here either.

Tech support is not as good as others(Daikin Mitsubishi electric)

Delivery of spares is slow(When you get the right part sent to you)

Installation is harder(When a wall mount is pre piped into a new residence, you always have trouble with the LG units getting them to sit against a wall.)

They seem to have all the brilliant ideas but no backup.

Don't forget Prestair! I remember them well. The reply about LG's not sitting snug against the wall, every one I have done has not sat snug until 2 weeks ago when I installed a 5.4 Kw wall mount which was obviously one of the later units as the back plate, the front cover (quite fiddly and will get broken) are different and the air handler has two plastic lugs that actually snap shut pulling the unit back into the wall. Last year I had a problem with a 10Kw wall mount filter door which had broken the female catch on the air handler body after two weeks, LG could not supply me with a replacement catch, they had been discontinued, after months and months they sent to my supplier a complete wall mount with different fixings which I have not got round to stripping yet, will install it on the units first service next month. I still think LG are good value for money and I have orders to install another two wall mounts and two cassettes then I may try Samsung, any feedback on Samsung at all.

I find that the middle of the range units work fine (Apart from the wall mounts not fitting up to the wall correctly) It is when LG have tried to "push" the limits of their equipment as in their single phase 10Kw wall mount or the 7Kw 600x600 Single phase casette (R22), this is when I find that LG really fall down though the quality and durabillity of their plastic components are pretty naff also. I have recently fitted a couple of Sanyo SPWs and a number of Daikins, and I find that the Sanyos are as nice to fit as the Daikins and the quality doesn't seem bad either.

Recently, i have been looking back at problem installs from the last 2 years.
This is what i discovered.
All of my LG problems have been through crap quality plastics.
My samsung problems have been crap plastics or dodgy electronics.
Hitachi no problems
Daikin no problems
MHI no problems
Mitsi Elec no problems

Korean plastic is rubbish.

After following this thread, it got me thinking. the job i was awarded on saturday, (LG wall mount and cassette inverters) would be changed to some quality Jap stuff.
You know what? the Hitach inverter stuff will cost me £150 more to buy.

For that extra cost i now know, that after installation, the next time i see that kit will be when the service is due.

No more crap for me. Mitsi, Daikin and Hitachi from now on. I would rather make less money on an install and know i will not be getting called back for silly little problems.

Cheers
