View Full Version : Acoustic Insulation for Ductwork

I am installing a throttle for a series of duct work for a fan test rig.

This throttle will be used to control the air flow into the ductwork . However, since this is a fan test rig, thus noise will be generated.

I am planning to install a acoustic insulation to the throttle and into the entrance duct to minimize the noise. So, the insulation would not be fixed for the entire duct work.

But I am not sure what type of acoustic insulation should be installed to it. And should the acoustic insulation be able to withstand the fan noise level as mentioned in the fan specification ?

Further to my last post to you, also Google "Woods Practical Guide to Fan Engineering" section 18 covers all aspects of Noise in Fan Systems and deals with accustic properties of materials.
There is an on line version of this which you can download and print.
Have plenty of paper and ink, it runs to 300 pages.

Why not just fit a sound attenuator to the inlet prior to your damper.
