anybody here get freebies from their supply house? In the USA I used to get free donuts, chilled soft drinks, coffee, mini screwdrivers/schraeder tools, pt charts, pocket notebooks, slap up feed twice a year.

They also had ice machines so you could fill up your water cooler/jug.

Had one guy here who wouldn't let me buy refrigerant coz it was too near closing time!!

I forgot to mention the ice machine service handbooks that were also free! Sporlan gave us supermarket guys a big binder full of info on their products/servicing too!

I think any freebees that there are go to the shiney arses in the office, golf days, sailing trips etc
And if my old company were anything to go by stuff that was meant for the engineers never quite made it that far...

Sounds familiar.

Couldn't agree more! The counter service was also a lot more relaxed. (at our local branch at least)

I ran a counter for 8-9 yrs. here in the states and made sure all the giveaways given to us WERE GIVEN TO THE WORKING GUYS. The owners of those companies came in and wanted to know why their techs got the free stuff when THEY paid the bills. My answer was the TECHS earned the money that paid those bills. It was never the size or value of the freebie just the thought someone recognized their loyality to a brand or counter. The ball game tickets, the golfballs, hats, whatever..never makes it out to the counter today. The " staff " picks thru the good stuff and we get the rest. I take a pass, now that I'm on the street. I spend 15-20,000 dollars a year in a place and get a donut if any are left. It just doesn't matter that much.
