View Full Version : New/Old Stock Copelametic Compressor Questions

Hello all,

The reason I'm here is because a neighbor of mine gave me a New/Old Stock Copeland Coplametic Compressor Model # HAJ2-0025-IAA its R-12 L.

Some specs, HP-1/4, CFH-84, Volt-115-1, RLA-4.1, App.-R-12 L, service valve-suction 3/8" discharge 1/4".

He said he got it while in A/C school in the 1970's and it is new and it was never was used, he also said it cost a bunch of money back then, but didn't say how much. (It still has the Mfg. inspectors tag on it, dated 1973)

A few questions I have because I know nothing about A/C.

What type of application would this be used ?

Commercial/industrial refridg. or A/C ?

Is it obsolete in any way because of using R-12 ?

I Googled it, and the only listing besides some specs, was one for sale listing of the same model "refurbished" for about 1,300.00, about what would this be worth new (if there is any demand at all for this model #) ?

If it is still charged with protective charge (nitrogen) than it is good as new.
If technician carefully follow retrofit instructions it could be used with any modern refrigerant.
Compressor doesn't care what refrigerant it is pumping if pressures and temperatures are within its limits and used materials compatible with new refrigerant.

Well after 40 years I doubt any nitrogen charge is still there, but is just like it was made new.

Only 1/4 horse, but its built like a tank...cast iron and weighs about 50-60 pounds.

You sure would not want to drop this on your toe !

It's a low temp R-12 compressor. Here's a link to Copeland compressor specifications, go to page eight in the compressor compilation link.

You can use any of the interim R12 replacements.

Due to the old style motor windings don't change the oil to POE and try to use R134a
