seawater heat pump

who have the experience in seawater heat pump issue? i live in a seaside city,but no seawater heat pump used here. I need the related information.thx in advance.

Hi lc_shi, not sure wat you are after but we use mersey river water that has been analised and found to be almost identicle to sea water. It seeps through to the underground railway system were we then pump it through heat exchangers to the condensers and sub coolers. the temperature never changes summer or winter from 11 or 12 degrees c. dill.

I have read once an article, I think it was in the danfoss Journal about it.

The story was about a Titanium heat exchanger used in a hotel in Hong Kong.

Get a boat and go to see.

spot on chemi, our heat exchangers were made from titanium and manufactured by alfa-leval, they were in place for 32 years without even having a gasget replaced. They were stripped and cleaned every spring and gave us no problems. At the moment we are in the middle of a major program of replacing our refrigeration system with a £3 million york system. If it lasts as long as the stal system installed in 1973 I will be well happy.dill.

Hi..wonder if you can help...you obviously work on large chiller systems (I am a chiller guy as well) but a friend is in the process of kitting out a yacht for a round the world retirement trip and wants to install a small seawater heat pump for cabin comfort(circa 3Kw)...do you know of any suppliers of this type of small seawater kit????...he is in the trade so would probably install himself....thanks....Superheatman.

In any special application of refrigeration systems I feel it is important to verify the compatability of the materials to the use.

Titanium works well as someone as already said.

Are you trying to use the seawater as a heat source by using a mechanical refrigeration system to pull heat out of the seawater? The heat could be used for comfort or process heating?

Or is the seawater used for the condenser only?

In the past I have looked at heat pumps for different applications. The more interesting project was for absorbing heat from clean sewage water and heating a manufacturing building with a heat pump.:eek:

These are always fun projects. I would be interested in learning more about your application.

;) You'll not go wrong with a York sysytem as they have a Marine Refrigeration Dept, good back up when required.
