View Full Version : will dirty outdoor coil affect both head and side pressure?

It's a split A/C system, the head and side pressure measurement seems correct, but the system is not cool enough. It has high superheat and low subcooling. For a under-charged system, will a dirty condenser coil cause both the head and side pressure appear to be right?

A dirty condenser effectivly makes the condenser smaller, so will raise the head pressure, this will have a coresponding effect on the suction pressure, my gut feeling is this will show its self more with a capillary system than txv but don't know for sure.

Personally if i have a doubt about a part of a system i like to eliminate it before concluding whats wrong, (possibly your system has a dirty condenser and is undercharged), why not give the coil a clean, it needs doing anyway, if it make no difference then you can move on to other areas and once the system is repaired it'll work all the better.

why not clean the coil and see if it makes a diff?

Maybe refrigeration works different in the US:D

What's the story Frederik, do you have a goverment yet? If you ask me, you are better of without one:off topic:

Before I cleaned the outdoor coil, the head pressure was at 200psi and side pressure at 70psi with outdoor temp at 73F. The A/C cools but is not sufficiently cool. The suction line is around 65C and liquid line is around 105F on a 87F day.

Now, I have cleaned up the outdoor coil, I will have tech come in do another pressure measurement sometime this week. Hopefully, the pressure drops and the tech can add some refrigerant to keep the A/C cool.

sounds like it definetely needs some cleaning before you can get the pressures running right and be able to get a better assessment of the problem
