Anything is possible but we need more information regarding the "old ammonia system".

These units use liquid anhydrous ammonia as a refrigerant. The pure anhydrous ammonia is mixed with water. Heat is then applied to the ammonia solution that has been contained in a pressure vessel.

Never heard of this old system.,is this ammonium hydroxide solution?..,mixing ammonia with water would create a violent chemical reaction.
