View Full Version : Altherma v Inverter Splits/Mini VRF

My general feeling is that the Altherma (or Ecodan) system, with all the radiator/convector field pipework installation is quite an expensive scheme, even though it boasts low electrical running costs (if sized correctly).

Has anyone compared an Altherma system against, say single/twin splits or a mini VRF system, as to install cost PLUS say 5years running costs.

Presumably the inverter splits would need a bit more electricity to run than the Altherma (not too much) yet would be the favorite to come out the cheapest install. (HWS not included, though.)

Then there is a Mini VRF option, such as the Fujitsu J-series. And 1-2 companies offering a HWS cylinder/tank attachment that makes it very comparable with Altherma scheme. (Presumably the Fujitsu/etc warranty may be voided with one of these HWS tank attachments between compressor and condenser, which would have to be factored in.)

Anyone looked into this?
