I was wondering what is the lowest speed that the compressor can go to on a variable speed screw chiller before the inlet guide vanes start to kick in. i assume it to be somewhere around 50% of Full Load speed but not sure.
Does this speed change at different conditions or with different manufacturers?

In general minimum speed on most makes is 1440rpm .
This is because of rotor tip speed and sealing against casing .

Thanks NNN,
I was reading the post and thinking "Is it me" surely Inlet guide Vanes applies to Centrifs?

Exactly. Surely the lowest limit in screws is the highest discharge temperature for the reduced flow.
