Hi there,

We are using sporlan TEV type DAE 10, DAE 15 & AAE 20 for our chiller room evaporators. the system was on service for about 2 years.

Recently we notice most of our TEV sensing bulb having severe defect due to the material not comparetable (Brass/cooper). we are waiting for the vendor to comment since last 2 month.

At the moment, we still need our system to be operate to maintain the tempreture for our product by manually adjusted / set the TEV adjusting stem. we manage to control the desire temperature.

The stupid question here, if we can control or set the desire temperature by trotelling the size of the orifice CV , why we still need to use TEV.

if the bulb is missing, the refrigerant from the TEV's diaphragm upper side is gone. TEV will shut.
It can not work.

You can use other manufacturers TEV's.

if the valve is now set to work without the bulb what will happen is the valve will act like an automatic expansion valve.
For the system to work correctly there is some fluctuation in the temperature and a working TEV can compensate for any temp change.

With the setup you have at the moment it may work and it may deliver a reasonable temp but any safety and control has been removed from the system.

For what it will cost, get the thing replaced for a new TEV and let it work the way it was meant to.

I think the sporlan type have got interchangeable heads, just make sure the gas type or the colour of the head match. If you have adjusted the superheat setting to compensate for no bulb, then you will have to throttle the stem valve shut so refrigerant flows, and then slowly adjust it to the desired setting. If you just fit a new head to it without adjustment, it may flood the evaporator and damage the pot.

Thanks Guys for your comment,

By the way any body have the experience in repairing or overhouling the VILTER VSS 1201 & 1851 single compressors ?. I'm not familiar with those type, if for twin screw type I'm easily fix it with single handed regardless what ever brand or size.
