Hello All

I have a project with 8 units and within a short time 2 systems are now full of water. (gas side)
We pulled the tube on the first to find it worn at the divider plates/tube supports. The tube is located at about 2pm adjacent to the outside of the evap shell. and at the oposite side to the water inlet/outlet pipes. Both failures on # 2 circuits.
When I worked for York in the 90s I remember a service bulletin about tube failures at 2,4,8 and 10 oclock adjacent to the shell and these had to be plugged. 4 tubes in each evap.
Can anyone share some light on this SB?
Units 3-4 years old.
Thanks AWW

Hi:
i wouldnt wait for more tubes to burst and would have all the units checked by a specialist x-ray or other methodes this will save you a s-----t load of money!

did u check your flow debit? actually to much flow with air in your water side can cause vibrations to the plates and damaging the tubes, and of course coolers made in MEXICO u need more to know?

Carry out an Eddy Current Tubing Examination and for sure your problem could be solved. If any replacement of tubes are required, please into the tube-sheet hole to check the condition of the baffle plates whether it's being corroded that cut the tubes external that caused the leak tubes.

Hi Alan

Not familiar with the type of evap on your unit, but know on some other evaps that the tubes situated in the 2, 4, 8 & 10 o'clock positions are the ones that hold the baffle plates/tube supports in place & cannot be repaired. If they leak the only option is to pierce & plug them.
Not sure if this makes them more susceptible to leaks.

If there's a fracture on a tube-tube/baffle plate junction this may not show up with an eddy current inspection.
