View Full Version : Jeez, what a day, and it's getting worse

Well, as one of those days goes it's certainly had the makings.

Firstly completed a clean up and modification job on two window rattlers and got those back on site. Lots of :) faces. Mind you they won't let start work on their 3rd unit because of production which is fair enough.

So start the next planned job which is a compressor swap with a chunky Maneurop 125, still at least I had some help with this one. Get to site and can't get an escort (it's a secure site) and am told that I had clearance for working outside on another compressor swap on a York chiller. Now I had been told that it would be 2 weeks before the suppliers could provide the unit, 6cyl Copeland semi, and was therefore a bit baffled.

The contact guy on site informs me that it is a bit desparate as the standby chiller has broken down as well and what with the +30°C ambient things were beginning to cook in the factory.

Start decommissioning the units ready for a change out, these units were built in 1982 so I think that they have had a fair life, and return to base. The office staff then get all wobbly because of the mix up and start fighting amongst themselves...time to get on to the next job methinks.

Next one is changing an R12 condensing unit over to an R404a unit due to old age and electrical problems killing the old one.

Anyway, recover the gas and blow out the old pipework ready for a restart in the morning when the office starts phoning with questions on the York chiller problem; the factory is threatening to close down if the repairs aren't completed by tomorrow - I'm sorry is this my fault? have I missed something? pass on that carry on with what I'm doing when the guy says Any chance you could top up one of our refrigerated trucks? and you think Oh what the hell, why not I've tried most things today so let's finish off by climbing up a truck :D

Didn't start going to the job till 5:30pm but at least it was almost local, 20 miles with the rush hour traffic going the other way for a change :)

Find the problem eventually, a dead contactor, but where can I get a 24volt 40amp contactor at 7:30 in the evening ?:(

Still, such is life and we must enjoy 'cos it we keep going back.
