Has anyone encountered this before? Went to fit a new compressor to a brand new Hotpoint chest freezer yesterday, (bought as new from a clearance centre and didn't work from day 1). The compressor was mounted normally, but was held in place by 4 steel pins which had been staked underneath. In other words the retaining pins could not be withdrawn without drilling the pins. Built in obsolescence? how ridiculous to effectively make something non-repairable. Wouldn't have been so bad if the (genuine) compressor had a mounting kit with it. As an aside to this, apart from the brand name on the handle, the appliance was Whirlpool.
