HI EVERYBODY,I AM NEW TO THIS. THIS IS MY SECOND THREAD AND I STILL HAVE NOT HAD ANY ANY REPLY.
I need to know about oil behaviore in a pumping syste. Using R507 at teperatures -40f and 2f.
I need to know if the oil sinks to the bottem or floats in a oil rich layer . Can anybody help?

Most compressor oils will float above R-507.

Costa,I would assume that oil having a specific gravity of approx 0.98 and R507 1.05, the oil would tend to float on the top of the refrigerant. The amount would depend on the miscibility of the two at that temperature.

I understand that because of the specikic gravity there will be an oil rich mixture .The miscibility I understand also depends on the temperature am I right?

I assume oil and R507 expand differently at different temps, which will give them different densities that would cause them to float or sink.

I didn't know you could have a flooded R507 system.

Well we are erecting a project that does just that.

Best to contact your oil supplier and get the saturation information from them. Since the SG appears to be close together, you need exact oil data.
