Ok first post here. Problem is high suction and low discharge.
Carrier 5H 40 is hooked in to a North Star model 40 ice maker. System runs usally high side 150-165 and low side 22. Been running fine, just did the hourly check, H/P 100 L/P 40 and not making ice. Pumped it down to shut off, when it got to the numbers it runs at turned liquid back on and low side went back to 40 in the blink of a eye.
Thanks Burnie

Will it actually pump down and hold the standing pressures?

Yes. I think I got it figured out. Might be a pluged oil line or oil pump is going out.

OK, I'm sure you've already got 'em but manuals and documents on the 5H here...

HI WELDER,
put all details.oil pressure and controlled oil pressure(c.o.p).check your loading unloading stem.did you adjust it?
i think your system is unloading.

I agree with moideen; need more input. What was the oil pressure?

Oil pressure runs around 55-60lbs. The pressure droped to 34 which unloaded the machine. Cleaned out all the oil lines and checked guage.
Fired up compressor and watched oil pressure, went from 53lbs to 30 lbs after about 30 seconds then started going lower. Got down to about 20 lbs. Looks like the oil pump is going out.

When you say "oil pressure", I'm assuming you mean "net" oil pressure?

There's several things that could be wrong. There is a screen "filter" in the end bell that the control oil goes through (could be stopped up); there's a relief valve located on the shaft end of the compressor that could be cracked or stuck; internal problems with the oil tubing to the unloader mechanisms; hopefully there is an oil pressure cut out in the control circuit or you might as well get ready to replace the compressor.

oil defferential pressure below 35,compressor will be unloaded.as pleh2ereh said,check the primary thinks.c.o.p filter,oil screen,oil pressure regulator......etc.
