Was told a few weeks ago about a problem with the only operational acetylene plant in the uk which took it out of action & injured several workers in the process..

Apparently the suppliers havn't been able to make up the shortfall & now the remaining stock level of Acet is low..

The supplier said it could be 6-12 weeks before previous levels of availability are returned !!

If anyone has any up & coming works that require acet it might be worth checking stock with their local agent....just leave some for the rest of us !!

Apparently BOC, Air Products & Unitor acetylene bottles are all filled at this same Uk plant, know Gasco went bump last year, did RPW take over some branches ?? Not sure if gasco have returned to the market..

Thanks for sharing this with us, I spoke to a friend who is involved in a lot of fitting/installation work and he has only been able to source the largest size bottles as stocks of the smaller ones have already ran out!

Cheers

Acetylene is more expensive then propane and is not really needed for copper pipes brazing.
It is more useful where cutting is required.
Acetylene is being used less and less so I assume the production is the same.

I have stoped using it when Propane came out in small bottles and now it comes in a comfortable 500g bottles.
