Hi baycuclaudyu, surge alarm occurs when the suction temp sensor picks up a rise in temperature at the impeller inlet. A surge condition can occur due to the increase in the difference of pressure between low and high side. The impeller "lift" can be exceeded and discharge gas will recirculate back through the impeller. Check that the condenser water flow and temp and approach are correct.

Hello
Agree water flow thru condenser and temperature very important but also is gas charge. if you are low on ***** u will most certainly surge also.
Mcquay centrifs dont want to surge to much.

baycuclaudyu,
Need more info.

Condenser water temps in / out?
Condenser approach?
Evaporator water temps in / out?
Evaporator approach?
Condenser / evaporator pressures?
Sub cooling?

What model and vintage is this chiller?
What control panel is on this chiller?
Reason being that the control strategy for surge alarms is different depending on the panel.
