I'm going to sound really thick here but here goes. I've got a decent Martindale clamp meter that can also measure frequency. Just out of curiosity today I wanted to use it to measure what frequency a Mitsi vrf was running at.
Obviously to measure frequency I need to use the probes rather than the clamp. The thing is, I became paranoid all of a sudden that I might blow the board or something so I decided not to bother.
Am I being daft or was I right to think again.

Also, to test the function on my meter I tested it on the main terminals on the unit. Funny thing was it gave me an accurate reading with only the live probe in contact, I thought that was strange.

Any thoughts?????????

Dont know the Martindale but I have used the Fluke & the TopTronic & they test with the clamp not the leads.

Page 8 details how to take frequency measurements on the Martindale multimeter
