Having recently been made redundent, i am struggling to find work, and it seems to be because i dont have my ACS gas certificate or plumbing certificates or electrical/fire alarm/security alarm/lift/elevator etc etc tickets.

It seems at the moment companies are looking for Jack of all trades.
Now i wouldnt call myself a master but 12 years experience, C&Gs etc etc purely in the AC&R industry has to be worth more than someone who flits between different trades.

I just find it hard to take that someone who has spent more time in a college classroom learning different trades without gathering valuable experience is more desireable than someone who has lived and breathed 1 thing for so long.
These are tough times!!

Am i barking up the wrong tree???

Rant over!!

I hope that you are able to find a job soon.

FM companies are the ones which only will employ cheap labour & they must do everything from unblock the toilets & change light bulbs to clean ac filters.
When there is a problem with the ac the FM companies fob off the end user for as long as possible & as a last resort call in an ac sepecialist company as a subcontractor to sort it out.

So I would not suggest trying with FM companies unless you must have local work & prepaired to take very low pay.

I would suggest concentrate on sending CV to contractors who specilise in ac work & are for example Daikin or Mitsubishi Electric business partner.
But you might have to travel arround more with this type of contractor.

Quite a few contractors who I work with are very busy for the last few months & so I suspect that some will be taking on some more engineers soon if they can see work getting busy later in the year.
Unfortunately we have elections soon & this always seem to have some negative impact on business in the run up to the general election. Then when every body knows who is going to be in power for the next few years business seem to pick up again.
So I suspect that employment may pick up later in the year & for the time being most contractors are trying to manage with the current work force.

Anyway best of luck
