Lecture on the IKK 2004 in Nurenberg of Paul Joachim, Professor at the Denmark Technical University.
Have al look at the pdf file, it's too big too post here, so posted it on a webspace of me.
There are some weird pictures on it.
He named his lecture Hall of Shame.

Hi Peter.

I thought the pictures are from Tel-Aviv but they are not.

I disagree with the Professor in a few things but the main problem with old buildings is that nobody have designed AC and every one solve his own problem and the result is what you see on the pictures.

Even on the roof of my house there are four different condensing unit but who cares' its nice and warm inside :D

what is the most popular type of aircon in Tel-aviv? split one or other central aircon system ?

Hi lc_shi.

In Israel some 50000 units installed per year. Most of them mini splits and some ducted splits.

Energywise, it is cheaper to have many splits then one big AHU or a chiller.
