My advice is to stay away from fixed rates, take each customer on their merits and charge as much as you can. After all, it's more about business than refrigeration from now on.

Sort out your priorities as your time will be your most valuable assett.

You can decide the price.

Work out all your overheads for one year:-

Your wage
Your mates wage + 11% for NI
Public liability insurance
Employers liability insurance
Van insurance
Accountancy fees
Training costs
Refcom subscription
Hazardous waste carriers subscription
Waste carriers licence
Van and tools, divided by 3(based on 3 year replacement)
Van servicing and maintenance
Van tax
Phones
Clothes
Computer/printer divide by 3
Stationary

Divide total cost by the number of days you will work per year, remember to deduct holidays (28 per year is the norm) and factor in some time for office work.

Add a contingency.

This is your day rate

For mileage and price work - get as much as poss' although you find that at the minute(recession) you will probably be told the price.

Good luck!

We charge between 400 and 600 per day for chiller work, but only get half that for splits etc.

Make sure that you are Fgas or Refcom registered, have insurance etc

And good luck. Things are busy if you are good quality.
