The chiller was idle for about 3 years and never commissioned by customer due to project delay. When we checked the unit we first found the Compressor controller faulty which was replaced. However, there was erratic communication between the controller and the OITS. For approx one day the communication was normal and all parameters were displayed on the OITS, however next day onwards the was not able to display the compressor parameters. On the Service Screen we found Unit version and UCM version was displayed all three LED on S1=1,5 & 7 were lit.

Suspecting the Compressor controller we replaced the controller once again, but this time while replacing we observed smoke from J11 and immediately disconnected power. We disconected the UCM cable connected J11 on compressor controller and switched ON, this time there was no smoke.
Note: The Unit controller communicates with the OITS with the same UCM online.

Have replaced the compressor controller.

What could be wrong? Help please..

All the software versions etc must be the same. I have found that replacement pco Carel/microtechs come with base software but without all the necessary filters programmed. Without these filters the controller will not work correctly.
Unfortunately you will require the services of McQuay to programme the microtech. Double check the wiring.

If the eprom battery backup has run down during the three years prior to commissioning and has been replaced you will almost certainly need to get McQuay to reprogramme the software
