Help! I need to calculate coldroom for blood freezing, can't find physical characteristics (laten heat of fusion, freezing temperature) someone can help me?

Is this for storage of plasma?

as far as I can rememeber you can't freeze red blood cells without addition of additives because they rupture

What additives I need? and what is the freezing point of this....
Thanks

If you mix equally a pint of blood with a pint of bitter it should be OK.;)

Totally disagree, whisky or vodka, much better solution:D
A body has 8 pints of blood then 8 pints of bitter, s*** my bladder aint that big

Hi there,

I think it is for plasma storage.
Plasma comes in the cold room only for storage. It has been frozen by another system like -60°C alcohol tub.

If you want to calculate assume water properties.
Your capacity will be higher than required but it is a good assumption.

I have a power point presentation about plasma. I don't know if it will help you but if you want I can mail it to you.

Cheers

Thanks, found some interesting things. But I need calculate coldroom capacity for plasma with conditions: coldroom temp. -35C, storage quantity 8000 kg, daily product loading about 200l/day, frizeeng from ~20C to freezing point (I dont know exactly ?C), per 6-8 hours. And i don't know: Specific heat above freezing, Specific heat below freezing, Latent heat of fusion this are missing parameters for calculate capacity by myself.

HI,
As I said, usually plasma is frozen very quickly by other means than cold room.
If you want to calculate use water properties.

best way to freeze plasma bags to to build an horizontal contact shock freezer, design for -50 then store the plasma at an minimum of -30, it is possible ive had service training on them in luxemburg.

Удельная теплоемкость крови, 3,9 кДж/(кг* °k)=0,93 кал/(г* °С).

I also agreed with Grizwold.
To freeze plasma bags you need to construct an horizontal contact shock freezer, design for -50 C then store the plasma at an minimum of -30 C that will definately help for your plasma storage.
