are you using electronic controlls or mechanical?

If its a mecanical valve, run case for 20 mins, fit guages to find suction pressure. use a comparitor to find evapourating temp.take suction temp next to tev phial
say tou are evaping at -10 degs and your suction is at -2 then you have 8 degs of superheat. you want between 4 and 7 degs for optimum operation.
always make sure you have a full liquid line tough, or you will not get a constant t.d.
Electronic valves will automatically throttle the superheat according to load. but do check the strainer and oriface size.

set da valve according to manufacturers instructions, allow the case to recover to temperature before checking superheat and making final adjustments. if you are using a pack (rack), remember that your superheat will change depending on the number of compressors running due to the volume of refrigerant being moved. if the valve and orifice are sized to the case manufacturers and system designers spec, then factory valve setting will not be far away and should need no more than 1/4 to 1/2 turn in either direction to achieve optimum setting.
