Indoor fan runs (yes)?
Outdoor fan runs (yes)?
Then trips?
Compressor F***** (techincal term)

As mad fridgie states, sounds like as the compressor is instructed to start it is tripping the circuit breaker. However, it could also be the start/run capacitor for the compressor which could be faulty within the run component and thus continuing to pull too high amperage, thus tripping the breaker.

Actually there are many reasons why the system could be tripping. The compressor / capacitor are common causes. You could try disconnecting individual components to identify which one(s) are responsible but only if you are qualified to work on electrical equipment and you are happy that the fixed installation is safe to work on.
