How about refrigerant HFC 407c. You will need to change the oil to a POE as well change the drier. This refrigerat has simliar characteristics and temp glides those of R-22 and its ozone friendly.

Go for R417A. Measure the quantity of R22 that you remove from the system, uif the system has a drier it would be best to change this, vac it out and then add between 90 and 95% by weight of R417A. System should work with very similar pressures and temperatures to R22. No need to change the oil or any controls, TXV etc.

Hello Andy

You can change R22 with a lot of new refr. but if we are talking about an international transport unit I suggest to make it R404.
more work must be done in the refrigeration circuit but if the customer have a breakdown in an other country than yours it will be more easy to be repaired.

Just a couple of points here.
-Why are we changing away from R22 again?
-Second, changing the oil is never a bad idea under any circumstances in my opinion.
-Changing to R404A requires TVX replacement and heat exchanger. (May also require software update in some cases.)

Last and not least, I have no idea what the last post means? LOL

good point but if he wants to do it ok

you are right but you must clean the circuit

you are right about the TVX but for the maxima I dont agree for the heat exchanger because you have the subcooling condesen that helps you .

I don't understand ither

Sorry, I was not aware of that. Here in North America the units are a bit differant.
Hope I helped more than I confused.

Here in North America, R22 isn't hard to come by or expensive. Maybe it is different elsewhere. Here, I can't see any reason to convert an R22 unit.

R22 is not too expensive in the UK at the moment, but once we only have reprocessed R22 available, the chemical companies will be able to charge whatever the wish. It will not be governed by what the industry can afford more likely to be on a supply and demand basis. They will have the limited supply and we will have a larger demand. As yet there has been no indication at to what price level may be enforced.

Another drop in replacement for r22
is r422d,dont know alot about it but came across it in a Dawson cold store that had been on r22

r422d is a low/medium temperature replacement and not sufficient for capillary systems.417 is not suited for low temp applications
