Have a Zanussi Frostfree refrigerator in the garage.
heard some crackling loud sounds as i worked on my motorcycle - bit like firework bangers going off.
Happened several times during the afternoon.
Looked at the fridge - appeared to be still working!
Next day checked the fridge - freezer working - fridge wasn't - any ideas what to check.
ambient temp in garage is 10 - 16 degrees c so i reset this to manual suggested 3-4 was on 5-6 and the slider control in fridge was moved from high to suggested min mark
really appreciate any relevant advice

Are you sure that freezer is working or it is only keeping temperature from its contents?

That sound is usual when isolation on capacitor is bad or you have some short circuit at installations.

Just checked - the food is frozen and the compressor can be heard to be working at this moment
