The short answer is you can't get R12 anymore

It is a CFC and has been banned

There are drop-ins available depending what the system is

You will properly get R12 from china.

What you need to do is get yourself a balloon, a long thin tube and some string.

Tie one end of the thin tube to the balloon with the string and let it float up till it gets to the hole in the ozone layer, this is caused by R12 so once the balloon has reached this height, just suck the R12 down with a vacuum cleaner, if you block the exhaust on the vacuum cleaner it will work just like a recovery machine.

R12 is an illegal substance not only to sell but to use. You would be better off to recover the remaining R12 for destruction, thoroughly leak test the system and repair all leaks that you find. Carry out an OFN pressure test, evacuate the system and re-charge with R413A or Isceon 49 which is available from HRP and other specialist wholesalers. You may need to reduce the quantity of refrigerant slightly, that is if you know the exact weight of refrigerant that was originally installed and you should get the same performance and pressures as with R12 without having to change the oil.

have you got a f-gas certificate to work with refrigerants . ie c&g 2078 or 2079 or a citb eqiv.

Well he says he is in refrigeration but I have my doubts with his lack of knowledge about R12 and the law.

I should have said that you need one of those dyson hoovers with the little cyclones in them, each one seperates a different refrigerant.

Very clever man that Mr Dyson :D

Sorry to tell but finding cylinders of R12 nowadays is about as scarce as getting hold of cans of striped paint.
Can you find that any more? ;)

Apart from being illegal to use it`s probably a cylinder of reclaimed mixed gas, and scrap at that. You won`t know until your system goes wonky.
Just imagine trying to get your money back, via ebay, on an illegal transaction.

Questions like this should be ignored as the writer is either taking the you know what, or not & should never be in the trade.
