In Europe, what type refrigerations units are typically installed on small vehicles like the Ford Transit Connect? Sytems that run off the vehicles 12 Volt Battery or Compressor directly mounted to vehicle engine? Both options seem to present challenges because you either have to upgrade your vehicle alternator or find a compressor mount. In the US, I am not aware of a 200amp Ford Transit alternator or anyone who makes a compressor mounting kit. Let me know if you have any EU suppliers who may be able to help.

There are both 12V dc motors with belt and pulley transmission to small open-type compressor, and also 230/400 systems running from plug and eutectic plates in the van. In the latter case, the system is run during the night, and eutectic plates keep the goods frozen during the day.

Where do you get the Transit Connect mounting kit for the systems with the belt and pulley transmission to small open-type compressor? On the 12 Volt Systems, do you need to upgrade the Transit Connect Alternator?

You don't. You just buy the condensing unit from Zanotti or similar, cut the van and install the unit atop or at "nose" position.

It depends on the actual requirements. But yes, it may be necessary. Have you tried any aftermarket alternator set?

why don't you have a look at companys such as "auto climate" ,"gah" & hubbard they can do cmks and the latter two will also do the units, all companies are uk based except "hubbard" who are owned by "zanotti"

Most common units in Europe for compressor drive will be Thermo King and Carrier for compressor drive. GAH is not overly common because there is no service network. Hubbard was much the same, although now they are owned by Zanotti the Hubbard units are being distributed into Europe rebadged as Zanottie (and vice versa in the UK).

For electric only, Zanotti seems to be the superior unit on performance and quality, although both GAH and Hubbard had electric solutions (not sure if the Hubbard offering would be dropped in favour of Zanottis own now?)

Hubbard use Auto-climate compressor mount kits, as do TK, Carrier and presently GAH for new vehicles, although GAH are one of the only Transport Refrigeration companies to develope their own mounting kits. Just be aware that they are designed for European vehicles predominantly.

There are alternate solutions from the likes of Euro-Frigo and similar with underbonnet mountings so no exterior components are visible, although they do not seem to perform well except in ambients of below 15°C ish and chill only.

When looking to a European source, be aware that most of our products, excluding TK and Carrier who supply globally, are only made to EU specifications and only carry CE markings and not UL or CSA so to supply into the states and Canada can be difficult. Zanotti and I believe Euro Frigo went through the process of gaining UL certification for their units, but I am not aware of the outcome.

GAH are currently going through a process to supply into Canada and we maybe able to offer a solution via our importers there if you are interested?
