Hi

Slightly off topic but,

I'm going to cut open an old compressor from a Mitsubishi 18000 btu air con unit, does anyone know how much oil they hold before I cut open with an angle grinder and spill it all over my garage floor ?

Always wanted to see whats inside one and have got one to cut open.

Thanks

Best thing to do is to drill a hole in the base and drain the oil out into a pan/bowl.

As you're wrecking it anyway, tip it on it's side first then drill the hole.

Why drill a hole?

just turn it upside down over a bucket and all the oil will come out.

But... do it out side as people tend to kick the full bucket by mistake many times, we do want to keep your garage floor shiny, don't we?;)

From what I know about rotary compressors for AC, you cannot drain oil from rotary compressor like that.
Brian_UK is right!

Yes you can.
Try and see for yourself.
Or....we get over here different rotary compressors....
