The carrier chiller model 19XL5353304CR S/N 1994Jxxxxxx has an intermittent alarm.
The alarm message in alarm history is
'CMPD 221.0 F exceeds limit of 220.0 F, Check Discharge Temperature'.
The intermittent alarm only occurs within 1 min. of compressor start.
The discharge temp display on LID equals to actual compressor discharge temperature measured by thermometer.
(ie., the sensor has no problem.)
From observation, the discharge temp goes from 120 F at compressor start
to sometimes 180 F after 30 sec. from compressor start and drop to 130 F after 1 min from
compressor start. And it is at 115 F (15 F Discharge superheat). This chiller will continue
running until normal shutdown.
In case of alarm, the discharge temp goes from 120 F to 220 F trip point less than 1 min after
compressor start.
The operating condition is
Ent. Chilled water temp 53 F
Lvg. Chilled water temp 42 F (42 F setpoint) (If it continues running)
Evap Refrig Temp 40.3 F
Ent. Cond water temp 86 F
Lvg. Cond water temp 94.8 F (If it continues running)
Cond Refrig Temp 99.6 F
Oil Pressure 29.8 psi
Oil temp 121.7 F
% motor amps 101
The PSIO software part# CESR-500048-08 (version 8).

Any suggestion to correct this problem?
Are there any Carrier service bulletin address this issue?

Hi Pete, I have worked on centrifs years ago what bothers me is the short time it takes to trip on high discharge temp. Question 1 are the vanes opening to let refrigerant through and what is the amperage at this stage.

What is suction superheat during this high discharge superheat? Are they connected?

differential saturated condenser temperature and condenser water outlet is high cleaning reviews condenser connections implies a falsification of the sensors can give erroneous readings at boot time, give complete readings of the machine and the configuration the same
