A little more description of the unit may help.

What sort of split is it?

if its a pump down system which it sounds like. I would suggest you look at the pressure switch sounds like its not knocking off hence contactor burnt out

HI it sounds like a pump down unit with low pressure control that cuts the compressor out.
the thermostat controles the liquid solonoied.
if your contactor burned out check contacts make sure no loose ones
and verify amperage fits the load

Sounds like the solenoid valve is closing by the controller, but the LP control is not properly set. Maybe compressor is running in a vacuum when in pumpdown.

What is the suction pressure when the controller shows 1 deg. C?
