There has been an extension to those with CITB J01 tickets which were valid on March 9 2009.

I was talking to CITB a few weeks ago and they said that because there is a difference in the interpretation of the requirements between CITB and C&G they were going to allow the extention in a hope that the situation is resolved.

Basicaly with CITB you have to also prove by demonstration and knowledge that you can change one of the main components to a system.
Eg The Comp, evap, cond or TEV, because C&G do not require that extra work, CITB are saying that C&G have a market advantage over CITB and it is somthing that needs sorting at the national level.

CITB have interprited the requirements a little differently to C&G, but both have been acredited as providers of the same award.

CITB are fighting their corner:D

C&G have another 'market advantage' over CITB.

CITB incorrectly charge VAT on their certificates.

When I took C&G 2078, I could have taken CITB J01 instead. There didn't seem to be any reason to as I only work on Vehicle A/C - nothing to do with the construction industry. C&G charge £35 for the certificate, while CITB wanted £35 + VAT @ £6.12

As a certificate is classed the same as a printed leaflet or flyer, CITB should NOT be charging VAT !

Kinda makes you wonder if CITB really know what they're doing.

Well, the fees were paid to the approved centre, but they said CITB charged VAT on the certificate.
I don't imagine that the centre would add the VAT if they weren't charged it by their supplier - all that would do is increase their prices and add to the paperwork without increasing their profits.

I work for an approved CITB Centre and WE DO NOT CHARGE VAT ON CITB OR City & Guilds Certificates!!
