I recently gave my old Hotpoint RLA34 fridge to my nan and ever since the appliance is constantly humming/ringing. I pulled the appliance out from under the worktop and the black compressor ball was very hot to touch. Is this normal ? Is that why the machine is humming and needs a new compressor. Hotpoint have quoted £100.00 for an engineer callout but would that be the total price or parts on top of that ?
