Had a beat down from a freezer today. Replaced compressor about two month ago on this unit ran fine. Went out today and unit was low short cycling. Found leak and repaired recharged. 1.5 hours later unit only at 16 then the compressor shut off too hot.

here is what I got (404a) TXV

suction 29 psi =-4 discharge 325 =122
suction line temp 56 liquid line 106

56 122
-4 -106
52 super heat 16 subcooling

ambient was at 90, dryer same temp in out. warped seneing bulb that was located near evap. Any one.

Did you replace the drier?

Yeah... I re-thought that one. Sounds like the TXV orifice might be frozen. Try putting it through a defrost cycle and see if it breaks loose and starts feeding the coil.

did that. Think txv is shot.

Did you check the TXV inlet screen?

no but, should I have frost on the inlet of the txv if the screen was plugged.

Maybe... or maybe not.

so what do you suggest. pull the screen and check if it is clear. Then if it is then I should change the txv. Another question the sensing bulb is in the evap compartment should I relocate it to the out side?

No... just clean the screen and put it back in.

No... leave it where it is.

ok checked screen and was clear. Think I need an txv.

You may be right... but first inspect the drier and the liquid line. If there is a restriction the line temperature will drop after the restriction. If the liquid line and drier are not restricted then all that is left is the TXV.

checked the drier not temp drop across it. Question: The txv is external equlized if that line to external is pinched will that cause a problem with my superheat.

Yes... It could.
