I had my dad ac go out this weekend. The tansformer was burnt out. Replaced it and then started the unit. It is a Five ton heat pump. The unit would not go into cool as the valve would not move over. Then I smelled burning. The tansformer was getting hot, then the unit stopped. I let it cool down and went out side to check the uint. It came back on when I removed the power to the coil on the reversing valve. Has any one had the coil on the valve take out a tanformer. The Tansformer is 40 va big enought for this unit.

no different than 240v on primary 240v on secondary used say as an isolation transformer running fan motors. yes i have seen it had to replace a $350 tranny because $2 inline fuse was not fitted to fan motor wiring.
