Evening all,

I have a duff 5 microfarad fan run capacitor which has 370v stamped on it. Can I replace it with a 450v rated capacitor?

I can't remember from college what the voltage difference is, 2 diferent values depending on the capacitors use or something or other:confused:

yes, as long as MFD is the same! It will hold the same amount of energy as long as the same amount of voltage is applied but because it has a higher voltage rating it can hold more energy if you were to apply a higher voltage

yes, i agree with wambat, just don't replace it with capacitor which has lower voltage rating than the original capacitor
