Dear fellows:

I found an old Mitusbishi ductless split system not cooling today: itīs so old that the capacity label is still in btuh (24,000 btuh)!! After a few minutes I discovered that I had a burnout piston-type compressor case in my hands. I suggested a compressor replacement, an offer that was accepted by the owner. The problem is that the local spare parts supplier only has Tecumseh rotary type compressors: those with a welded suction accumulator on them. Capacity seems to be the same, but is there any reason for not replacing a piston-type compressor with a rotary one in these ductless systems?

Disgard the old system and start again with current technology, you will save your self a lot of greif and your client a lot of money.

hi
i have seen people replace a scroll comp for a recip which didnt work, scroll compressors dont like the high pressure drop. also as mr magoo says it is not worth all the work with the old comp/ old system but then again it is up to the customer.
good luck
