Is the separation of synthetic oil in NH3 systems better then mineral oil?
Is it easier to drain synthetic oil in stead of mineral oil?

In my twenty + years in the trade I have found that synthetic or semi-synthetic oils are better at keeping a system clean, better at oil return from oil seperators and much easier to bleed off from oil pots. I have also found that compressor bearing life is extended by almost double. I have had very good results with Camco 717SC oil (it contains a very good seal conditioner)

I've seen excellent separation between PAO oil and ammonia in oil pots. In fact, it separates so well that the oil can be returned to the crankcase of the compressor in a flooded chiller without getting much ammonia back with it.

the synthetic oils I have used are on average 20 to 30% higher in cost than conventional mineral oils
