Denco downflow

Hi guys

I have de-commissioned a denco downflow unit (removed gas) the system has had a leak. My question is
If the unit was going to re- used somewhere else
you would put virgin r407c in as the removed gas is now void! But if you where putting new gas in would you need to add oil? The compressor us sealed but it does say on use a certain type of oil?

In what circumstances would you have to add oil?

When you have had a major oil leak.

I hope that you have put a holding charge in the unit to keep it dry.

If R407C gas is to be used the Mineral oil should be removed and POE oil used. You should be able to get the quantity from the compressor manufacturer and quote the model. Don't forget to stick a R407C sticker on the compressor with a date etc. I think you need to make sure the expansion is acceptable.

As the manufacturer of the equipment we do not recommend you carry out retrofits, it causes issues with compressors, evaporators (Glide) and also it has a knock on effect on the duty.

Are you saying that you will be retrofitting an R22 system or that the system was always R407C and the original refrigerant charge is void because of fractionation?

In a sealed system with no oil sight glass you should only put in the amount of oil that you take out, you dont know how much oil was in the refrigerant that you removed so I would'nt worry about it, assume that the vast majority of the original oil charge is still in the compressor.

It doesn't sound that scientific but on smaller systems you have to take a few things for granted.
