Please reply if any body could help me with the following, we have 2 atlas Model # UV740 running with 2 Vilter Model # VMC 340 we need to know what sizes of expansion valves should be used, we are running R-22 the machine now produces approx. 30 tons per 24 hrs. but have always noted the system to be very erratic, it will run fine for a few cycles then perhaps not freeze in the middle,or other areas, it seems this unit has always been this way so we felt tx valves may not be correct, any help would be appreciated.

Could be oil trapped in drum, or moisture effecting the expansion device. As system is on R22, I would be thinking oil in the drum.

I experienced the same problem. I think that the refrigerant has small velocity inside the drum and at low temperature oil is trapped in the drum. We would add R-12 and it would help to return oil back to compressor. R-12 cannot be used now. I heard that pentane is used with POE oil to return oil back to compressor. Could pentane be used with R-22? What % of pentane could be added?

I have had same situation with similar machines, at the operating temps the oil goes like think honey and will float on top of R22.
I had to shut down machine, isolate liquid feed and ran warm water over drum for lengthy time to get oil fluid again. Then start compressor with high suction to get high velocity and drag oil back, can take several cycles to acheive. Sump oil levels rise and go dark so oil change necessary. Check the oil return line strainer from separator oil as well.

the oil problem. you can add a high pressure inducted oil return measure

I am thinking about buying some wholesale water pipes from this company in China
but I am not sure if they are legal to bring in to the states? What are the laws on water pipes, bongs, and pipes?
