I have recently been asked to install a bi-flow receiver on the first stage circuit of a commercial 100% outside air heat pump. Approx. total refrig. charge is 60# R-22. Application is indoors. Children present during operation.
The new factory provided bi-flow receiver is unconventional with respect to typical receiver construction. The vessel is a 31# 410a device. There are two dip tubes, no service valves, and one relief device. It is a fusible plug, fitted in the center of an end bell, theoretically below the liquid level. The fusible plug is 1/8" MPT.
I would like to ask a couple of questions and will greatly respect all feedback. Thank you.
a) What effect will the vapor bound area in the upper area of the receiver affect refrig. flow, if at all?
b) Will the fusible plug be effective in it's location, below the liquid level?
c) What can be done to create a relief vent to atmosphere?
