Hello everyone

Can someboby tell me how to test a small single phase compressor to see ifs its electrically faulty, can this be done with a multimeter or do you have to have some other tester ( its probably a simple answer) and if there is any websites on electrics and how to test and use various electrical equipment

Thanks : :)

Hi Flump,

First check that none of the three electrical connections (pins) are down to earth.

Measure the resistance at each of the pins against the other two. You should end up with three different readings, the sum of two of them adding up to the third measurement.

That's the start, the compressor may be electrically OK but can still be stuck.

Good hunting.

Hi FLUMP.

First, check with a Megger for earth loop.

If you post manufacturer name and model, I can tell you what resistance you should read.

But the most simple way without any tools is to connect it through a RCB, make sure earth is connected and start it.

If it runs ok then motor is OK. If it trips. replace, no need for other tests.
Now check theif it holds discharge and suction pressure.
Holds, fine. If not, replace.

Thanks Chemi

How did you get one with the container. So you really just need a meggar to make sure the compressor is down

Thanks
