Hello my first post and first on this subject?
I have looked at several resouces and hard to find but what should be in the checklist for spring PM service for a heatpump. This service is to carry the customers equipment through the hot season Barring other unseen failure like lightning and power problems

I guess he is not a air con engineer and is trying to work out if he is getting a good service.

Hi Guys, Brian answer a ? with a ? Really?
What points really matter with a PM service on a heat pump? This can be a roof package system or a split system
Obviously spring means cooling is going to be used

Thank you

Here in the USA, we should be going for energy efficiency on any call we go to.
A proper sequence procedure is important.
A good starting point is checking AH blower wheel for dirt & lint. Coils must be clean & airflow checked & brought to specs.

Use Superheat & Sub-Cooling for proper charging systems.

I can't type a lot so, this time if it is okay, will list one of my many Web pages. Okay, won't post yet. (Bad carpal tunnel in both hands)

I am retired & totally non-commercial in every way now. I just try to help everyone else as much as possible.

My point was that as an HVAC/R Technician if you already work on cooling only units then why would servicing a heat pump be any different apart from including the operation checks on the reversing valve.

Hi Brian and Udarrell
OK I'm new to AC service too but yes Udarrell efficency is right up there.

Ok let me list my points and you guys can shoot at it OK?
First off I am in the southwest USA
1. Check evap coil and clean
2. Check evap motor running amps and compare to nameplate amps
3. Check condenser running amps and compare to nameplate amps
4. Check upsteam evap air temp
5. Check downstream evap air temp
6 Check compressor running amps
7. Check static voltage to unit
8. Check running voltage to unit
9. Check voltage across contactor
10. Check condensor pipe temp in
11. Check condensor pipe temp out
12 Check average supply and return registers in conditioned space

Looking for trouble spots and if evap splits are delta 15F no need to check charge

OK
Ready,
set,
shoot

Then you should start with buying new service vans from Europe with better fuel economy!:D
